A couple of weeks ago I told you that the new Corporation figures were rather nice, and looked very like the concept pictures. Mantic’s Christmas present to those signed up for their newsletter was some photos of the troopers, and they’re up on their webstore for pre-orders too.
Like I said, they’re pretty close to the art, but why take my word for it?
As you can see, there are some minor differences, though some of that is simply the different limitations of the different media. Overall though, I reckon they’re very much in the same vein, and it’s fair to say that the “feel” is what we were led to expect. It’s possibly also worth saying that I think they look even better in person than in the photos of the greens 🙂
This pic is a different angle, so doesn’t compare so well. Still…
And then there’s the boss who seems to have put his mobile away and reached for his blade… or possibly there is a choice of hands. I don’t know – just a guess.
Overall, a jolly nice selection of near-future SF humans. All sorts of uses for these guys 🙂
If you’re interested, there are more concepts and photos over on the Mantic site, both in the blog and the shop.
Having just checked the e-mail I was heading over here to comment on the previous post you made on the Corporation. These are some nice minis, possibly Mantic’s best, and they look like they could be used across a few systems.
“possibly Mantic’s best”? As a range, I think you may be right. There are some great individual figures in their other ranges too. As a whole though, I think this one is looking like their cutting edge.
Of course, that’s only talking about their Warpath (SF) ranges. It’s more tricky to compare Corporation to, say, Abyssal Dwarfs or Undead.
Yes, I do mean as a range. I like their Undead, especially the Ghouls and Zombies. I picked up an Undead army when it came out but it’s never been assembled and with being so poor and other gaming needs more pressing it’s going to be moved on.
Their ghouls and zombies are particularly well done.
Got me a whole Undead Army because of Mantic… only the Wraiths I replaced with Wraiths and Ghosts from Otherworld and I found a really impressing miniature for the Lich King so this one also is not the Mantic one. But the rest is way better than their GW counterpart, which is too comicy for my taste.
Hm.. the middle green, the left arm seems at an akward angle where it touches the should… or is it just the picture?
It looked a bit strange to me too at first. Then I realised that the troopers have a sort of double overlapping shoulderpad which can make the shoulder joints look a bit bulky. You just have to imagine where the actual joint would be and it seems about right. I think it makes more sense when you can turn the model round in your hand.
If I recall, those are Paul Muller sculpts. He’s done some excellent work.
Yep saw these on the Mantic email and I have to say I’m impressed. I’ll have to get my hands on some of them to truly judge of course but from the looks of things they’re very close to the concept sketches that I liked so much. And I have to 100% concur with Ben, I’d place these as being Mantics best work so far. I like my fantasy Orcs, I think their Undead are brilliant and the Abyssal Dwarfs are OK but these look a step up as an entire range.
Very tempted to replace my Imperial Guard with these figures 🙂
I’d be curious to see whether you could Ebay your IG, replace it with a shiny new Corporation army and make a profit.
Why replace!? The IG have thousands of regiments with different uniforms! The more the merrier! :p
I’m so looking forward to this. Mantic’s Dwarfs and Elves were ok – but very cheap which makes things better. The Undead and special Abysal Dwarves were great. The Orcs are brilliant as well. The quality of some of their plastics has moved straight into another class, surpassing their first two armies.
I notice those Corp army deals have quite a few units on offer…. Raises an eyebrow. Looks like Mantic have been working hard at this release for a while.
Lots of units? I think it may also have something to do with the fact that they’re mostly (all?) resin-plastic rather than hard plastic. It’s a different process, and one I’m not very familiar with. I gather that it’s much faster though.
The pre-order box set for March has heavy weapon teams, veterans and drop pack “rangers”, which seems like quite a bit of stuff. No vehicles though 😦
Plastic-resin!? … interesting.
I’ve been focussing on what’s in the Project Pandora box, so I’ve not seen the drop pack guys or even looked for vehicles. Now you mention it, I suppose there must be something big on the way for them. Orx get trikes, Forge Fathers get gun tractors. What do the Corp get? Hmmm.
Sentinals?
A Mantic take on those would be fun.
