Warning – Deadzone Approaching!

I’m going to hold off major discussions of this for a while, despite the urge to write screeds. The Kickstarter is live this Friday, at 1.30pm Blighty time to be precise, so you’ll hear all you want soon enough.

You can potter over toย deadzonethegame.com to watch the thing count down and also see a very brief teaser if you like. Make sure you don’t go to deadzone.com though, because that just redirects you to a travel agency.

Strange, but true.

    C’mon Jake,

You think us ravenous Thorntonites(?) will be satisfied with that!?

Give us something, the name of a faction, how many dudes per force, how long wiull a game take to play, anything!!!

Thorntonites, eh? Sounds like a cult. Well, no. I didn’t really think that would quiet you lot ๐Ÿ˜‰

Whatever I say will only lead to other questions. However, let me answer one: how long will it take to play? Currently it’s still being tested and tweaked, but my aim is to get it well under 90 minutes, settling at 60-75 in an ideal world. Of course, that’s partly dependent on how long the players take to think, but that would be good as an average. That’s about the same as DreadBall because I like that length of game.

This does mean that I’m trying lots of tricks to speed things up, and that in turn leads down some intriguing design avenues. Not that this will come as a surprise to most of you ๐Ÿ™‚

The modular plastic scenery in the photos from Salute looks incredible. If a non-gothic, non-ruined cityscape is available for less than a kings ransom then you guys could have a hit here based on that alone.

But if the Deadzone rules are as good as DreadBall in addition to that… exciting stuff.

I am very excited. ๐Ÿ˜€ I already decided to back this kickstarter weeks ago. I have been quite thrilled with the pictures popping up on the Internet from Salute and / or Adepticon.

I was already sold on it before, but after Adepticon and getting to hear and see more about it (the Teraton is AWESOME!) I can’t wait for Friday. Can’t think of the last time I was so excited to spend so much money….

After doing a little poking around Salute reports and the like yesterday I found out that DeadZone is played on a grid of sorts and is a tape-measure free system.

Without losing the run of myself here, I find it hard to express how pleased that made me. I am the target demographic for Deadzone for very many reasons. I look forward to F5-ing my way through May.

  5. Hi Jake,

Just found your blog, as I remember reading it a while back where you discussed KoW.
Now that I live back in my home town of Nottingham (I am Michael Metcalfe who was discussing Salute with you on the GoB Facebook page) I am really trying to get back into my hobby. I am hoping that the host of games that has came through KS will do just that. ๐Ÿ™‚

I have not seen your BoW interview at salute yet, as I am about to sit back with a brew and put my feet up for the next 37 mins. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, back on track. Love the fact it will be a gridded off playing area, as I always think that games work faster and allows for delicate forward planning, a bit like chess.
I am hoping that the sweet spot of the KS will contain both minis and terrain, as this would be great for intro games for your nieces and nephews by using Mantic exclusively for all the games needs. ๐Ÿ˜€

    Speak soon,

    Mick

      Hi Mick,

I don’t think that BOW have put my interview up yet. I’ve not had time to watch the first two parts of their coverage, but Mantic isn’t listed in the companies covered and that’s who I was with on the day. Saw the brief mention of God of Battles at the end of 2 though ๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t know what the pledge levels are like for DZ (not my department), but you need scenery to play so I’m sure that it’ll all be part of the deal.

      • Just finished watching episode 2. Was really nice to see the Warlord guys also. especially with all the new Bolt Action stuff. I am still waiting to become fit to paint again, and boy are those models gonna get some action!! ๐Ÿ˜€ I have 2 big Para and SS armies I want to try out.

Yeah I saw they spoke to Matt at the end of the show and Warren mentioned he was hunting you down for a chat. Makes me want to see more!! But us gamers are never satisfied are we, hehe. But I always think that is a good thing, as it propels us forward. ๐Ÿ˜€

        Mick

  6. EARLY BIRD! Strike Team in the bag. ๐Ÿ˜€ = Happy times
