Aplogies for not dealing with your comments for the last few days. I’m not currently at my desk and am writing this without any reference books to check rules queries and such. I’m also not sure if I will have a reliable net connection to post more than this brief missive, so this pause may continue for a few days yet. Or may not. Like I said, not sure about that.
This is not a permanent change though, and what passes for normal service will be resumed as soon as possible 🙂
It is near enough the silly season. Time to bust out the Battle Santas and Mutant Reindeer I think and once again battle Grinchian insurgents at the North Pole Dimension.
Really hope your absence is for a good thing such as a well deserved holiday! Regardless best wishes in you absence. That said I look forward to service resuming 🙂 .
So… those couple of days have turned into a month. Should we start getting worried?
Mr. Thornton was at the open day and Mantic hasn’t said anything about deceased game developers (or maybe they have skills in Necromancy) so I assume that we don’t have to be worried about him.
Still, this radio silence is unnerving.
Happy New Years to you, Jake. I hope all’s well. Looking forward to hearing more about what you’re up to.
Happy new year, a year of new games to play. Hope to hear from you soon.
Right, the pledgemanager is up… we really need those beta rules now. If I dont get them, my pledge will stay at 100$. Not buying more than the base game if I dont know what its going to be like…
This is from July 12th. I searched it because I don’t want to misquote his personal business. But he could very well have a very good reason for being absent based on this post:

Doesnt change the fact that I wont add anything in the pledgemanager if I dont get more info. Im not mad at him or anything, I just dislike paying for stuff I dont really know anything about. How do villains work? How does an ork differ from a demon? What makes one expansion different from another? Those are just really important questions to me. And since we didnt even get a couple of decent pics of the sculpts, I cant even just buy them based on looks alone.
When you Jake have time would be glad to hear topics like:
– How developing/leveling up heroes/necromancers work? As I read that advanced rules has races and professions, do we have skill trees? Would be nice to have a exploding dice skill for some heroes (6=throw a new dice or 6=reroll any attack dice you want).
– Do campaigns have different scenario goals? If heroes lose a goal, is the defeat final? In Descent, the story continues, but the result may effect on the next level.
– Do heroes get any items by killing monsters? I noticed that in co-op edition of Descent there is a loot track. When it reaches a certain point, an item card is drawn and given to a player. Not sure if this is a good thing as it’s one additional step of bookkeeping.
More about loot. Maybe there could be a thief skill that can be learnt. If a character has the skill and kills a monster, he may throw a dice. With 5 or 6 (maybe a legendary hero with 4 too) he receives one random item (a random item may be no item at all with a bad luck). If item cards cannot be used, then possible a d10/d10 chart for advantaged rules.
Then other topic of interest is what is the plan to balance Dungeon Saga with different player counts? Does one player have to control 4 heroes on 1vs1?
While I would like more information I recall. That we have been previous toldwWe do have a thief skills but I expect the skill to be more open doors/disarm traps. And loot is to be located in furniture rather than monsters(not to say there won’t be the option). There are item cards in the main game and each expansion. The scenarios will state number of heroes with the core campaign having four but I believe there was stated there are be 2 hero (cleric/paladin) scenarios and 8 hero (validor) scenario in the journal
Mantic has certainly not provided much real news on the project with the pledge manager now available. The kickstarter seemed to be constantly adding new stuff to jakes work load that i expect it will be delayed which is better than thrown together. The tiles are still quite vague.
I contacted Mantic about this. For what it’s worth, they let me know Jake has been hard at work on the game, tweaking rules and playtesting, despite not posting here. They let me know that there are plans to provide more updates before the March 1st cut off date for the pledge manager.
Would be nice if they said this in an update so that everyone will know, but I thought it’s worthwhile news to post here.
Cheers for that.
They promised so much but very vaguely during kickstarter that I doubt they will be able to provide people enough details before the pledge manager to actually make the best choices for any person to be clear.
So as of today I have 4 new DBX teams here on my desk that have no game rules. What’s up with that?
